PLAYING OUTSIDE OF THE SCROLL

Getting you known beyond what you post is my raison d’etre πŸŒ€

I feel so much better off social media. More present, in tune, and more myself. While it's a not a reality I can entertain currently, there's a growing curiosity for other ways of doing things.

There's a lot of talk about offline marketing at the moment like it's something new. Swapping this for that. It's not something I ever really stopped. That's PR right there, to a degree anyway. I've spent almost 20 years of my career getting brands and businesses known outside of their brand worlds. Social media just became a part of that. So I’ve started purposefully playing outside of it.

Asking friends for recommendations, my mum for advice. Looking at community noticeboards (never stopped that, tbh) for things to do, practitioners to book. Picking up magazines to read for pleasure, not just for work. Trusting the calm curation (and consent) over the chaos of insta-ads.

What has a meaningful impact is shifting. It's a time to shift with it.

Which is bloody intimidating when everything feels uncertain and exhausting and now you have to add even more to your to-do list. I feel it too πŸ™ƒ

So how do we turn that into an opportunity, not a ticket to overwhelm?

For me, it's all about playfulness.

Ye old marketing folklore tells us people need to see something 11+ times to really connect with it. It's not just about frequency, but context and location. Socials, newsletter, word of mouth, a flyer in a coffee shop, an opportunity to see you speak at an event, finding you on a podcast, spotting you on someone else's channels.

When it’s just you, it’s not realistic to try to do all those things.

Approaching growth as a spiral, where each action builds on the last can be a helpful way to experiment at a steady pace.
It's a framework I use with clients to map growth in ways that are efficient and match your capacity. You don't have to try everything at once. Start with 1-2 new places where your people actually are. Try something different. Approach it playfully. See what happens. Then add the next.

THREE POSSIBLE SEEDS TO GET YOU ON YOUR WAY 🌼

πŸ“Œ Put a pin in it: Pop yourself on community noticeboards in spaces where your people already are. Health food shops, yoga studios, co-working spaces. Ever the optimist, especially when beautifully designed printed materials are involved.

πŸ‘―β€β™€οΈ Add more people to your recipe. Ask to meet 3-5 β€˜connector’ folks for coffee. Programmers, practitioners and brands/PR’s (Me πŸ‘‹) . Explore co-creating something together, events or a content series. Blend those audiences together.

πŸ“© Drop an invite: Feel awkward reaching out, invite them along to your next event. It's the easiest way to bring people into what you do without starting with a big old pitch.

Small strategic steps. Real relationships. More heart, more human.
